“That’s what ploughing IS, hun “
The farmer that I asked to plough the future veggie garden and I apparently have different understandings of what the word “plough” means. I did tell him why I wanted it ploughed and what my after ploughing gardening plans were….
There are massive rolls of sod and clay that could possibly take just me and my shovel the rest of the summer to break up, and a surreal landscape of spectacularly uneven ground……not exactly the head start I was looking for!
My husband has somehow managed to locate a roto-tiller for me to rent for the weekend, so maybe there is some hope of recovery from this event in time to plant, assuming I can actually operate the machine….phew!
I have been unable to contact the farmer. But the farmer’s wife has assured me that “that’s what ploughing is, hun”….
Huh. Live and learn.
Plant Lady

Trillium Grove Farm is where I am living my gardening dream and my personal ideals of working with nature and respecting the earth. This blog captures my garden and landscaping projects: I am interested in establishing woodland gardens, cultivating organic vegetables, planting trees of all sorts, and I have a weakness for native plants, lavender and lillies. I favour planting with diversity and then letting nature find the right balance rather than interfering with chemicals and monoculture. …I even plant extra for the critters.
